A wide variety of weapons exist. The weapons used for combat have evolved over the centuries. In ancient China, they developed according to the wars, rebellions and uprisings that punctuated the history of the country.
Two big categories of weapons can be distinguished: the weapons originally designed in order to kill (spear, sword) and weapons issue from the use of tools (axe, rake). This diversity is due to the fact that the rural population (composed of peasants and artisans) was forced to defend themselves the best as they could against attacks, using as weapons all that they could find, including farm and crafts tools. The use of those weapons in Kung-Fu is a legacy of these practices.
Whatever the style taught, some weapons are well known and considered as a basis to control all the other weapons: bo, broadsword and sword. The techniques of weapons (stick, sword, broadsword, halberd) are known, with their specific boxes, in external and in internal way.
